African Contortionist at the Southbank

Some time ago in warmer climes, I was strolling through the Southbank’s Sunday carnival of actors, buskers and chestnut sellers when I came across these incredible West African dancers. Their energy and humour stuck out against the grey London sky and muddy waters of the Thames, sharing an uplifting snapshot of one of the many exotic cultures that are bubbling away under the surface of our diverse capital.

Watch and be astonished as a fully grown man folds himself up to the size of a parcel and is paraded around on a plate!

I had a Google of these mind-boggling body poppers and was directed to the website of the equally talented Tanzanian dance troupe Afrikan Warriors, who were finalists on on Britain’s Got Talent 2009. However I’m pretty sure that these aren’t the same group of dancers and remain unenlightened as to where exactly these fine folk hail from. If anyone has seen them and knows more about which part of Africa they come from, I’d love to hear from you.
